When disaster hits and your home is flooded, it’s easy to feel hopeless and like there is nothing that can be done.
Flood Zones are constantly changing because rivers are constantly changing courses and natural disasters are unpredictable.
If your home is in an area that has been declared a disaster zone by FEMA, or if three flood insurance claims have been made on your home, you can apply for a FEMA grant for the elevation or relocation of your house above the floodplain.
If three flood insurance claims have been made, the homeowner, MUST elevate their home above a designated level, relocate their home to a property that is out of the floodplain, or take a government buy-out. If the homeowner does not choose any of these options, the homeowner cannot receive any insurance reimbursements in the future for flood damage.
FEMA has recognized a member of the EHM team through the Emergency Management Institute.
